SEPHER HASGULOT

A Book of Life Remedies (cont.)

Now, every human being has a name. The English word name is SHEM in Hebrew. This word, SHEM, consists of two letters. Remember, there are no vowels in Hebrew (vowel sounds are created by short lines and dots above and below the letters, and we’ll talk about those later on). These letters are SHIN and MEM.  Here’s how they look (pic.1):

Pic.1.   The letters SHIN and MEM create the word SHEM, or name.

Forget about the fact that these are actual letters from an actual language. Imagine that these pictures are just engineering sketches, or pictographs. Interestingly enough, the letter SHIN represents the element of fire, i.e., GVURAH, judgment, and the letter MEM represents the element of water, i.e., kindness. That’s why if you have a name, any name in any language, you are always driving yourself crazy being pulled between these two forces – kindness and judgment. The short fuse comes into the equation when the force of SHIN, fire, judgment, overcomes the force of MEM, water, kindness. You become an unstable atom with just two elements: a positive element – proton - and a negative element – electron. What’s missing? The neutron, the balancer! Where and how do you get it? The system that created both kindness and judgment and manifested them in the Hebrew letters has the answer. There is another letter, the letter LAMED. In Hebrew, LAMED is also a word that means studying, learning, finding out, exploring and teaching. LAMED looks like this (pic. 2):
