SEPHER HASGULOT

A Book of Life Remedies

Introduction

A book is a book is a book, right? Not exactly! A book in Hebrew is SEPHER.  If you are a spy and want to send me a message that nobody else can understand, you will use a special code or a so-called CIPHER. The word CIPHER comes from the Hebrew word SEPHER, meaning a book. But not just any book – a book compiled of special hidden meanings and messages.

Now, you have a problem.  You don’t know how to solve your problem. You need  advice. You need to know what to do. You know a person who can help. You ask for advice. You get the advice. You follow the advice.  You solve your problem.  For the rest of your life you’ll never regret that you followed this advice. This type of advice is called a life remedy. The Hebrew word for remedy is SGULAH, or the plural form, SGULOT

In your hands, you are holding a codified book with hidden meanings (SEPHER) filled with special life remedies (SGULOT).  That’s why the name of this book is SEFER HASGULOT.  The letters HA in HASGULOT means the in Hebrew.

Let’s try one, shall we? Some people have a problem with their temper. Are you one of them? Do you know somebody who could use some help in this department? Do you routinely get into so much trouble because of your short fuse that it’s not even funny anymore? You’re trying hard, but all to no avail.  So what do you do now? You need a SGULAH, a remedy, a solution. You need a SGULAH now! But first thing’s first: definitions! If you can’t define the problem, there is no chance of your ever solving it.

Your problem persists because you don’t know exactly what’s happening when you get mad. Sometimes you get so upset that when you’ve finally calmed down, you can’t even remember what you said. Scary stuff, isn’t it? In short, two forces are responsible for your moods in any given time. One is the force of kindness (HESED) and the other is the force of judgment (GVURAH). Remember these two words. HESED is represented by the element of water, and GVURAH is represented by the element of fire. Makes sense, right?
